Just Another Random Post

First of all, merry (belated) Christmas!

I haven't been around all month of December, mainly because I've been lazy. Pure and simple. Also, because it's been too hectic with work, finding those perfect presents for everybody and going party hopping!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was a little bittersweet. Mainly because it's the second Christmas I didn't get to spend with my  family.  I never really thought about it, but it does get tough! I spent it with my boyfriend's family who are like a family to me and have welcomed me into theirs with open arms, but I still miss mine a ton. I'm hoping to maybe go see them next year, and personally meet the niece that was born a year ago, hug my parents and enjoy my mom's delicious cooking and let her spoil me like a little kid. Can't wait.

This year was a fantastic one! I really can't complaint, but I am eagerly waiting for the new year to come.  I don't have the traditional resolutions, but I do have personal and  career goals I would like to accomplish.  Here goes to an awesome 2014 full of health, happiness and love!

Also, here is a picture of my kitty, Tesla, because she's awesome and because I haven't posted a picture of her in ages.  Did I mention she loves to chase her tail like a dog?  I love my cat, she's a lot of fun.

Try New Stuff at Swaggable!

What is Swaggable:

I've been part of Swaggable for about a year now.  It is a place where you can try and discover new products and write your feedback on their website.  Completely legit, fun and awesome.  I've been able to try many new products (from brands previously unknown to me) such as brittle brownies, organic soap, cashews, lotions, and many more. After you post your feedback, you can share it on your favorite social media outlet for your friends and followers to see.

Swaggable has many cool features that make it fun and different.  For example, people can follow you or friend you, vote up or down your reviews, it has exclusive deals for product discounts and a feed tab where you can see what others are trying out, and read their reviews.  But the coolest feature of Swaggable is perhaps its "want" feature, where you get to let the Swaggable team which products you're interested in! They have products n many different categories such as cosmetics, health and wellness, beverages, kids, and pet supplies.

My thoughts:

I love getting new, free products to review! I love them even more when they're something I haven't tried before.  Swaggable is user-friendly, fun and social. I have tried many different products and I've loved every single one of them.

Check out this video about Swaggable below:

Fall Dress Review - eShakti Does it Again!

EShakti is a wonderful clothing company for which I have previously written reviews.  I own several dresses by them as well as other clothing items, and they never go out of style!
This time around I'm going to be reviewing one of their dresses from their Fall Collection.

Things to remember:

Eshakti has sizes between 0-36W.
You can customize your order to your heart's content! What length do you want your dress to be? Pockets or no pockets? Long sleeves, short sleeves, no sleeves? You name it, they'll do it.
They have dresses for all types of occasions.
From personal experience, they have one of the best customer servicesI have ever dealt with.

My review:

The  dress I chose is soft, warm, comfy, feminine and cute.  I chose black, because it's a neutral and you can style it with pretty much anything you want.  I am a size 4/6 in eShakti dresses depending on the style and the material of the dress, and since the dress I chose was a combination of cotton and spandex, I decided to go with a size 4. I figured it would stretch if it fit me snug.

I wore my wonderful dressd to a date night with my boyfriend.  The dress came with cute pockets in the front as an embellishment and cute little buttons in the chest area.  I also chose to make the sleeves longer, perfect for those cool fall nights, and chose the skirt length to be just below the knee.

Here are some pictures:

I styled my dress with my favorite Nine West leather pumps and a simple faux pearl necklace.
I bet it would be adorable with some riding boots and a faux fur vest as well.
The dress is versatile like that.  It kept me warm through the night, though it really wasn't that cold, it was cold enough to make me want to wear long sleeve clothing.  Like I mentioned before, I wore it to a date night with my boyfriend, and our server complimented me on how nice the dress was, though that's not really surprising, since I usually get compliments on my eShakti dresses whenever I wear them!

Verdict:

EShaki's fall dress was wonderful! The fabric is thick so the dress is is warm, comfortable, with some stretch, and not to mention cute.  I can't wait to wear it to the holiday parties that are sure to come!

Check out eShakti's Fall Dresses HERE.

Disclosure:  In exchange for an honest review, eShakti sent me a sample dress to review.  All opinions are honest and my own.

Dr. Scholl's Active Series Review!

What it is:

Insoles that help reduce shock when running, and prevent pain for those runners who suffer shin splints, runner's knee and plantar fasciitis.

My Review:

Dr. Scholl's Active Series insoles are pretty awesome. They can fit any shoe in between the sizes of 5.5-8 and 8.5-11 for women's sizes. I am a size 6, so the insoles were a little bigger for my shoes. No problem! They are traced so that you can cut your shoe size accordingly with regular scissors.

After that, I took them for a run.  I do get sore ankles after my runs around the block which usually last about 15 minutes and I didn't feel my ankles as sore. They are comfortable to walk with and provide full support of the foot throughout.

Verdict:

The insoles are very, very comfortable! They do indeed help prevent pain after running, in my case, sore ankles.  Also, great for walks. They'll make your tennis shoes feel like new again!

Montagne Jeunesse Red Hot Earth Sauna Masque Review

I loved Montagne Jeunesse face masques ever since I got the opportunity to try them thanks to Influenster.  The only problem I have is finding them!  So when I saw that my local supermarket had it, I thought to myself, I've got to get me a few.  They had two kinds: the Chocolate Masque and the Red Hot Earth Sauna Masque.  So I bought both.  I have already reviewed the Chocolate masque thanks to Influenster before.  The Sauna Masque is new, fun and awesome and here is why:

1.  There is more than one use per package. Though there's only 0.5 ounces of product per package, there is enough for at least two uses.  Here is what the package looks like (please excuse the messy picture, I took it after I had already put it on my face, I just couldn't wait!)

2.  It's a vegan product.  Never tested on animals, Montaigne Jeunesse Red Hot Earth Sauna Masque is awesome for those people looking for companies that don't test their products on animals. I know I do. And those companies are super hard to come by. They also have no parabens or dairy.

3.  It's hot. The Montagne Jeunesse Red Hot Earth Sauna Masque will feel hot as soon as it touches your face. The warmth is supposed to open up your pores and bring all the bad stuff out.

4.  It's super easy to apply.  Having a super liquid-y texture, a little bit at a time goes a long way. It is not as thick as other Montagne Jeunesse masques, so I had to be extra careful not to put too much at a time, otherwise it would drip all over my clothes (practice makes perfect).

Look, my face is all glowy!

5.  It's affordable.  Yup, it retails on Amazon for about $3 but I bought it at my local store for half that. I kind of regret not buying them all, actually!

Verdict:
With a subtle, but pleasant scent, this masque is wonderful for relaxing for a good ten minutes and washing it off without letting it dry. Afterwards, my face felt soft, not extremely soft, but softer than before the mask.  It's a fun masque to do on weekends and the hot feeling on the face is fun and unexpected.

Recommended? Definitely.

I love it!

Shop My Closet on Storenvy!

It's finally happened:

I have too many clothes that don't fit in my closet!

It doesn't help that I live in a tiny apartment and my closet is just not big enough for all the stuff I have, which is why I decided to open a store on Storenvy.com.

There you'll find items that I never wore (shoes, dresses, tops), or that I only wore once or twice, as well as some makeup, always brand new. Every item is affordable. So far I've sold a few items and I'm really loving it!

Want Longer Lashes? Try this

I have always had short, thin lashes.

I have tried all kinds offake lashes and mascaras, and while they do help with longer and thicker lashes, I would still love to have natural, full lashes.

I've been wanted to give those "growth" serums like Lashem for lashes and brows, but I was skeptical to buy one, because they're kind of pricey.
It wasn't untill I won RapidLash in a giveaway that I was finally able to give a try to one of these serums.

Here is a picture of my lashes before, and even here I'm wearing mascara!

What it is:

RapidLash is dermatologist and ophthamologist tested.  This enhancement serum is clinically proven to improve the look of lashes in just weeks. It contains potent ingredients that condition and nourish lashes and brows.

Does it work?

It did for me! I have been using it for a couple of months, every night before I go to sleep I put a little bit of RapidLash on my lid, right where the lashes are, using the little brush that comes with it.  I put both on top and bottom lids.

After two months of using RapidLash, I have found that my lashes have definitely multiplied. They are thicker, fuller, and stronger. The improvement in the lenght is not as noticeable as the improvement in the volume, but you can totally tell there is a difference in the before and after pictures. When I put mascara on, it looks like I have fake lashes!

And here is a picture of my lashes, without mascara, after using for two months!

Where to buy?

You can buy this over the counter from Walgreens, Amazon, or BedBathandBeyond and it retails for about $50.

Verdict:

Great for more volume in lashes, relatively affordable, easy once-a-day application.  I would recommend and use again!

My Newest Addiction: Instagram Trades!

I've been an Instagram user for over a year now. I love it! I love it to post cute pictures of my ridiculously cute, manipulative cat, photos of random cute outfits I wear, tons of selfies. I also follow my favorite celebrities like Channing Tatum the Almighty Oatmeal (Mr. Matthew Inman) and now, with their new video feature I watch all the funny cat videos I can find to my heart's content.

That's tons of stuff I love about Instagram, but recently I'm even more into it because of a new hashtag:

#SHOPMYCLOSET

It's been around it for a while and it's like Poshmark but more fun (I think, minus the fee you have to pay for every purchase). With that hashtag, I've found super cute clothes, super cheap. But more than buying I love trading. Tons of Instagrammers are on there, not looking to make money (I'm sure that's still nice when they do) but mostly looking to get rid of their clothes they no longer wear (or never even wore in some cases), and hopefully trade it for another item that some other girl no longer wears as well. It's perfect.

So far these are the amazing finds I've gotten my hands into via Instagram shops:

Candie's top, traded for a pair of white pants

Millibon colorblock bodicon dress, brand new with tags was $25, bough for $20 shipped. I love it!
It is super flattering!

The downside to this is that you really have to put your trust in the girls who are selling or trading, and just hope that they're going to be reliable and honest and they won't just take your money or stuff. So far everyone I've been interacting with has been super awesome and I haven't had a bad experience. It is really fun and I find myself putting up items for trade almost every day! It is a lot of fun.

Do you have a lot of stuff in your closet you no longer wear? Maybe you should try it!

Where to Eat in Santa Fe: Jinja Bar and Bistro

Santa Fe, New Mexico is one of my favorite places in the world, not only because of its history (oldest Capital in the US), and beautiful Spanish architecture but also because of its food. Santa Fe, New Mexico has a fantastic geographic location for its food: close enough to the border with Mexico for Mexican food,  and surrounded by Pueblos for delicious Native American food, and many other options like Italian, American, Indian, and Asian.

Although I thoroughly enjoy all kinds of food, there is one restaurant in particular that I enjoy the most when I eat out in Santa Fe. The name is of this restaurant is Jinja Bar and Bistro.  Jinja's specialty is Pacific Rim cooking and has many vegetarian and gluten-free options. I have had the pleasure of eating there a few times and every time I visit I love it more and more.

The Food:

My absolute favorite is a soup called the Malay Coconut Soup. It is a delicious soup made with coconut milk, and udon noodles. The soup has shrimp, bean sprouts and it's a little spicy. It is also served with a side of freshly made fried chips. I always have it for an appetizer.

For my entree I usually have the delicious Seared Sashimi Tuna on a bed of spinach. It comes with Jazmin rice, hot sauce, sweet cucumber and ginger.

Another favorite of mine is also the Jungle Green Curry which has shrimp (I love shrimp!), bell peepers and other vegetables in a creamy coconut, curry sauce. I love it.  This dish is really delicious and the curry is not overwhelming.

The Service:

The restaurant is casual and comfy, kid-friendly, with low lighting and contemporary music but the noise level can be high. They have a great variety of foods, and alcoholic mixed drinks, and a full bar. You can expect an entree to be anywhere from $10-20, and a bill of at least $50 including appetizer, entrees, and non-alcoholic beverages but not including dessert or tip. The waiting times can be long, so it is highly recommended that a reservation be made before.
I haven't had the best of experiences with the service as the waiter/waitress usually takes too long to get our orders, refill our drink, among other things. One thing about this place is that the food usually takes forever to arrive at your table so make sure you get an appetizer before ordering the main course.

I would give Jinja 4/5 overall. Great food for the money, great atmosphere, okay/poor service. This is one of my favorite restaurants!

I'm Going to Law School!!!!

Well, that's still a MAYBE, and here's why:

Things have been going great!
I got a great new job that I love, which is why I haven't been blogging as much lately.

The new job I got is working for a small law firm, specializing in immigration law and if you want to be even more specific, family immigration law.

You see, I went to school for civil engineering but I never really got to work in the field for many reasons that stopped me from looking for a job in engineering. So, one year passed, two years passed after graduation and I just couldn't find a thing that I felt passionate enough to do for the rest of my life other than engineering. I have worked several jobs that I never felt fulfilled me in a way that I was looking for.  I have always known I wanted to help people, make a difference in people's lives, make people happy. It wasn't until one of my friends told me that this small immigration law firm was looking for an bilingual assistant (and that I should apply) that I finally found something that I thought might work for me.

I showed up to the interview so nervous that I even forgot the most important piece: my resume!
Seriously, who forgets their resume in an interview? Answer: this girl.

But I don't know what the lawyer saw in me that she hired me on the spot, not even bothered to ask me for a resume. When I asked her if she needed me to e-mail my resume to her, she answered: "no, I have a feeling about you."

And I've been working there ever since.

Immigration law is so easy and complicated at the same time. It has tons of instances where decisions are up to an immigration officer or even TSA. Or if you get a bad lawyer, you might as well have gone with a notario or accountant.  That's where I've finally found my passion: making sure justice is served, and of course bringing families together. I thought to myself: I could see myself doing this for the rest of my life.

Last month, the lawyer I work for asked me if I would like to go to law school. She is looking to retire and leave her firm to a new lawyer she trusts, and asked right away if I was interested in going to law school, of course, she added, she'll pay for it.

Needless to say I was totally speechless.

First thing I said: where do I sign?

I am an immigrant myself, and I wholeheartedly believe in the American Dream. After so many obstacles I've had to face, it's happening for  me right before  my eyes, slowly and little by little but surely.

And I couldn't be happier.

Now I just have to past the LSAT test!

Wish me luck!

Derek Cardigan Glasses from Coastal.com

This post brought to you by Coastal.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have you heeard of Coastal.com?
If you haven't, Coastal.com is the largest online retailer of contact lenses and eyeglasses in North America. They are known for their vast variety of Designer Eyeglasses at half the price! But my favorite thing about Coastal.com, is the fact that for every pair of glasses purchased, Coastal.com donates another pair to someone in need, how cool is that?

They carry anything from Calvin Klein to the Derek Cardigan line of eyeglasses.

I really like the Derek Cardigan Eyeglasses.
Why, you ask? I am kind of like a very nerdy/hipster/stylish person. Nothing over the top, but just enough to be "fashionable" (or so I think!). And that's exaclty what the line of Derek Cardigan eyeglasses are: cute, vintage, with that hipster feeling to it, simple but yet fashionable, bold, not to mention super affordable! None, I mean, none of the Derek Cardigan eyeglasses pairs at Coastal.com is over $98, and of course that's not even counting those that are on sale, or part of a promotion. The Derek Cardigan eyeglasses come in different colors: pink, silver, brown, and of course black, among many others. And the styles are many: the anyone is bound to find something that fits their personality.  And of course you can always "try them on" to see how they look on you with their "Try on View" feature, just by uploading a picture of your face, or using the pictures already on Coastal.com. Here is my favorite pair from Derek Cardigan at Coastal.com :

Aren't they cute? These eyeglasses are totally me. I love them!

I Really Hate Ironing

As with cooking, I am terrible at ironing. I have burnt so many pieces of clothing trying to make them look presentable.

I used to work at a boutique, and it was there that I discovered the magical world of garment steamers. I've known about it for a while, why I didn't get one before, it's beyond me.

So I finally got one of those magical devices that make all wrinkles disappear before my eyes, all without getting burned, and all without ruining expensive silk blouses. This is the one I got:

Rival Hand-Held Garment Steamer

I do not know why I took the picture of the Spanish writing side

It is a really cool little gadget. I love it! It was only $25, which is super-affordable. It came with different covers and a stand, but the actual steamer has a flat surface like an iron, perfect for those folded parts of clothes, like the collar. Using distilled water of course, it takes less than one minute to get it going.  Once full of water and ready to use,  it does not weigh much, easily handled by hand. It has a nod for different levels of heat, but I usually just leave it on the highest. So it's pretty much plug in and go! Here are some before and after pictures:

Cotton T-shirt

And then more heavy duty for a thick cotton dress:

I am so happy I decided to get this little appliance. Not only is it a lot shorter than ironing, it is also safer for the clothing, and it refreshes the fabrics. I love this little thing and I am never going back to traditional ironing.  Ever!

Thrift Store Haul #2

Sorry I've been away this month! I've just been busy with work and stuff. I'm glad to be back!

Anyway, I had a three day weekend for once in a long time, so I decided to go thrifting with my BFF. It was Memorial Day weekend so we found tons of deals at the local thrift stores. I was particularly looking for white pieces of clothing. I am a super messy eater, I drop everything on myself, so white is really out of the question as far as clothing goes. But white looks really good on anyone, so I I really wanted to get some cute pieces so it would hurt too much if I suddenly dropped some ketchup on me or decided to roll on the floor with the cat or randoms dogs at the park. :)

Here are some of the great things I found:

VS PJ's $2

Charter Club silk blouse $3

Tommy Hilfiger Sleepwear bottoms $2

White top $3

Daisy Fuentes pants $2

Calvin Klein Capri Pants $3

H&M top $1

American Eagle Outfitters T-shirt $2

I also got a new purse for $3 but I didn't take a picture because I forgot it in friend's car. I got all of this for about $21! That's pretty awesome. I love going thrift shopping because I always find great stuff for a few bucks. My friend managed to find an Oscar de la Renta tie for about $3 and a beautiful lamp for about $10.
I would do it more often but it takes a lot of time, and that's something I don't have a lot of, lately. Thank goodness though, I love being busy!
